Listed below are a range of potential future Working Groups that we could envisage emerging from the targeted Workshops in Arcachon next April. For those topics where groups already exist (e.g. Mediterranean Posidonia Network, Noltii Network etc) it is hoped that the ESRW2 Workshops will help to both solidify and grow those existing communities.
SEAGRASS SPECIES
There are FOUR native species of seagrass present in Europe. Dwarf eelgrass (Nanozostera noltii), Eelgrass (Zostera marina), Little Neptunegrass (Cymodocea nodosa) and Neptunegrass (Posidonia oceanica).
A number of seagrass restoration guidelines have been published for each of the four species.

ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
Restoring seagrass meadows has multiple benefits to people. However, understanding both the potential barriers to restoration, and building the evidence base for these multiple benefits at the local level is incredibly important.

TECHNOLOGY
Modern technology can aid us in our quest to restore seagrass meadows at scale. Accurate spatially and temporally explicit data can help inform us of the best places to attempt restoration and thus reduce project risk, and novel scientific discoveries and technological developments can help us to undertake restoration at ever larger scales.

GOVERANCE
The restoration of seagrass meadows is often undertaken with quantified and geographically explicit targets. Restoration projects implementation plans must specify what will be done and where, with enough precision to allow the local actors to take action. In addition, work is required to establish clear funding mechanisms. All restoration work needs to happen on land subject to a governance structure, and all of it must positively involve local communities.
