The following Community Practitioners are working on seagrass monitoring for restoration programmes in Europe:

Prof. Dr. Laura Govers
Rijksuniversiteit Groningen & Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research.
Project Affiliation:
Laura is working with seed based Nanozostera noltii restoration methods in the Wadden Sea, and with transplant based Nanozostera noltii methods in the Wadden Sea, Veerse Meer, Grevelingenmeer and Oosterschelde, Netherlands. Laura is also working with Nanozostera noltii transplants in the Étang de Berre and in the Parc naturel marin du Bassin d’Arcachon, France.

Bárbara Ondiviela

Project Affiliation:
Bárbara is a marine ecologist and her research focuses on the ecology of intertidal seagrasses and the use of remote sensing based techniques to improve our understanding of coastal ecosystems. Bárbara has devoted much of her research to investigating the spatial and temporal dynamics and ecological functions of the seagrasses Zostera marina and Nanozostera noltii.

Juan Lugilde-Yáñez

Juan Lugilde-Yáñez is working on assessing different transplantation and monitoring methods for Z. marina, N. noltei, and Z. marina var. angustifolia (including both shoot and seed transplants). He is also conducting a study on the ecophysiological status of seagrass meadows in Ireland.

África is working with both transplant and seed based Zostera marina restoration methods and with transplant-based Cymodocea nodosa in the Alboran Sea (Western Mediterranean Sea), she is developing the most effective and affordable methods to restore deep open coast areas (6-14m depth)”.
