The Project Sund Vejle Fjord has so far restored 6.1 hectares of seagrass (Zostera marina), 8 hectares of boulder reef and 53 hectares of biogenic reefs (Mytilus edulis) and secured protection from fisheries on all the reefs with associated eelgrass restored in the vicinity, this amounts to a total area of 54 hectares.
Context.
All of Vejle Fjord is now protected against any form of bottom trawling, securing that the restored habitats are not destroyed by fishing vessels. The project is financially supported by the Velux Foundation and the first project period was from 2020 to the end of 2024. In 2025 the project was extended another 5 years.
