WHY ESRA?

EU NATURE RESTORATION LAW

On the 18th August 2024 the EU Nature Restoration Law entered into force. EU countries are expected to submit National Restoration Plans to the Commission within two years of the Regulation coming into force (so by mid 2026), showing how they will deliver on the targets.

EU countries will also be required to monitor and report on their progress whilst the European Environment Agency will draw up regular technical reports on progress towards the targets.

THE UN DECADE ON ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature. It aims to halt the degradation of ecosystems, and restore them to achieve global goals.

The UN Decade runs from 2021 through 2030 (which is also the deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals) and the timeline scientists have identified as the last chance to prevent catastrophic climate change.
