The European Seagrass Restoration Alliance (ESRA) was founded as an Association 1901 by Dr Richard and Sarah Lilley on August 9th 2024 in Gironde, France.

ESRA’s creation was announced in the Journal Officiel de la République Française on the 27th August 2024. On 14th November 2024 Dr Nicolas Mayot was elected as President of ESRA.

From January 2026 this Association 1901 has been renamed The Ocean Gardeners. The announcement of this name change ‘modification’ is recorded in the official journal here.
